It is with a heavy heart that I am writing today to inform you of the passing of one of our beloved members, Kathy Borden, on Saturday, August 19th, at 6:15 pm; she passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. Her passing has come as a profound shock to all of us, as it was unexpected. Unbeknownst to all of us, Kathy had been recently diagnosed with Leukaemia. Unfortunately, she succumbed to pneumonia, which was the result of an unknown infection in her chest. It is a reminder of how unpredictable life can be and how important it is to cherish the time we have with our loved ones.
Kathy was not just a member of MWLGC; she was a cornerstone of our Millwoods golf community for the last 25 years. She filled numerous roles on the committee such as President in 2021/2022, and her most recent was Secretary for 2023. Kathy dedicated her time selflessly to our club, ensuring its success and making sure that every member enjoyed their golfing seasons to the fullest.
Throughout the years, Kathy participated in both the business and day leagues, leaving behind a trail of joy and smiles among everyone she played with. Her passion for golf was contagious, and her presence on the course was always a bright spot in our club’s activities. But Kathy’s love for sports didn’t stop at golf; she also had a deep passion for 10 pin bowling. She also often spoke about the peacefulness she found at her lake lot in Mulhurst Bay and the close-knit community she cherished there. Her enthusiasm for life and her genuine love for her hobbies were truly remarkable.
As we mourn the loss of Kathy, let us also remember the joy, laughter, and camaraderie she brought to our MWLGC family. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in our hearts. On Tuesday August 22nd there will be orange ribbons beside the Loonie pot for all to wear in memory of Kathy. A special thank you to Angie Strashok for the creation of these ribbons in such a short timeline. Please take one and wear it to honour Kathy’s legacy. On behalf of the executive, we are heart broken at the loss of our friend and will be working on ways to further commemorate her memory.
Let us come together to support each other during this difficult time and remember Kathy Borden with fondness and gratitude for the time we had the privilege to know her.
Warm regards,
Kimberly Roy, President
MWLGC Executive Committee
