Mill Woods Ladies Golf Club
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT (Janice Martin)
From the looks of the golf course just last week it was hard to believe that our club’s planned first day of golf is only about a month and a half away. But then on the other hand, a lot has happened over the past 4½ months.
At our crossover meeting in late October executive members whose terms were up passed the torch over to those members coming on board. This year’s new executive members are: Elaine Shannon as Assistant Club Captain, Leslie McEvoy as Treasurer, Rita Gartner as Vice President, Debbie Deluca as Social Convener and Cheryl Doucet as Secretary. Returning executive members are: Jo-Ann Pethybridge who this year is our Club Captain, Marilyn Bulat and Bev Sedgwick as Membership Co-Chairs, Tania Topolnyski and Kay Willekes as Prize Co-Chairs, Bev Boersma as EGA Representative and myself, Janice Martin as President. At this meeting we discussed the possibility and feasibility of a website for our club. This would give us an on-line presence that will further promote communication with our members. A sub-committee of Jo-Ann, Elaine, Rita and Janice met in November to brainstorm and figure out how to make this dream a reality. It was then that we determined it was time for us to have a logo for our club.
So we appealed to our members to submit ideas for a new logo. We weren’t inundated with submissions but we did receive two that were given serious consideration. Thank you to Sandi Babuin (runner-up). We didn’t choose her logo but it did include a tagline that we really liked and will be incorporating in a number of ways.
The logo that we chose, featured at the top of this newsletter, was designed by Wade Lange of 4ward Studio Design and was submitted to us by Val Webster, his sister and a member of our club. Wade has been very generous of his time and talents and has accommodated many requests to fine-tune his original design to make us happy. If anyone is looking for help in the area of branding, logos, print services, etc. contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Work commenced on the website and a new player’s manual. Both are really close to being finished and we will be introducing them to you at our Spring Social on April 14th at 7 pm in the main ballroom at the golf course. This will be our first event of the 2015 golf season and our first chance to reconnect with old friends and hopefully meet some new ones. The club will be providing some light eats – cheese and cracker platters – that you will be able to supplement with a glass of wine from the cash bar. In addition to reconnecting with our golf friends and hearing what is new with the club, we will have a very brief meeting where we will present the final 2014 financial statements and the 2015 budget.
So that pretty much catches you up on what the executive have been doing these past few months. We are looking forward to an amazing golf season and can’t wait to share it with YOU!

Our Spring Social is on Tuesday, April 14th at 7 p.m. I look forward to meeting our new members and reconnecting with friends from past years. Join us and share your tales of winter travels and milestones while enjoying some snacks and beverages.
We have a New Member Orientation set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21st at the clubhouse. Come out and learn more about our club. Let us welcome you and make your experience an enjoyable one, with ‘insider tips’ on more specific topics than what’s covered at the Spring Social.
The Rules and Handicap Meeting is set for Monday, April 27th at 7 p.m., again at the clubhouse. It’s a great chance to review some basic information and to get questions answered. New and returning members are all invited to attend.
I encourage everyone to think about representing Mill Woods Ladies in the city- wide interclub Podersky Cup (alternate shot – May 21, 28, June 4, 11) and Marshall Cup (match play – May 25, June, 1, 7, 8) tournaments. It’s a great way to meet other golfers and to see and play other courses in the area – and it’s loads of fun too!
Jo-Ann Pethybridge (firstname.lastname@example.org) Club Captain
Reminder to please join us at our annual Spring Social/Meeting at the Woodvale Community League (Mill Woods Golf Course) in the main ballroom on April 14, 2015 at 7 pm.
