Visitors Day – July 11, 2023

Visitors Day – July 11, 2023 – Mill Woods hosts Sturgeon Valley

Our first Visitors Day for 2023 is fast approaching. The Mill Woods Ladies will be hosting the Sturgeon Valley Ladies Club and we encourage as many of our members to participate as possible. This is an opportunity to meet and play with members from another club and yet another opportunity for us to come together as a club and possibly play with some members we may have not met yet.

Visitors Day happens during the regular Day Ladies tee times. The sign up sheets for this event will be up on June 6 and will remain up for 2 weeks (the sign-up sheet will come down on June 20). If we get enough women participating we may be able to get a shot-gun start. The golf will be followed by a banquet lunch which will cost $25.00/person (you are responsible for paying for your own lunch). When you sign-up please indicate whether you are interested in just golf or golf and lunch. Payment for lunch can be sent by e-transfer to treasurer@mwlgc.ca or paid by cheque and given to Janice Martin or Tania Topolnyski (no cash will be accepted.) Please be sure to indicate on your e-transfer that the payment is for the Visitor’s Day lunch at Mill Woods. Payment for lunch must be received by June 27. On the sign-up sheet you will also be able to indicate whether you will be walking or riding. This is important so that when we do the draw we can put walkers with walkers and riders with riders.

To participate, please see the sign-up sheets that will be posted on June 6. If you have any questions about Visitors Day, please do not to hesitate to contact Janice Martin, Visitors Day Coordinator at janicemartin3@shaw.ca or 780-993-9933.

Mill Woods Golf Club News

We are excited to announce the hiring of James Whitton as our new Head Golf Professional. James has been in the golf industry for over 20 years and began his career and turned Pro at the Mill Woods Golf Club. In 2011 James became the Head Golf Professional at the Leduc Golf Club and for the last six years has served as their General Manager. During his tenure at Leduc, he introduced several initiatives giving that course a higher profile in the region including hosting an annual Pro-Am (wonder where he got that idea). Leduc also recently hosted the Golf Canada National Junior Girls Championship. James also was heavily involved in negotiating a long-term partnership with the City of Leduc, and the design and construction of a new 10,000 square foot facility while developing a strategy to keep the course fully operational during the construction of the building.

We look forward to having James return to his roots and know that he will be bringing with him his enthusiasm for the game and for golf operations.

Welcome aboard James!!
